Successfully Navigating Family Court in New York - Book Talk

  • Montgomery Book Exchange (map)

Please join author Maria Patrizio for a unique discussion of her book, "Successfully Navigating Family Court in New York".

This book is a guide for those who find themselves in Family Court, usually during a difficult time in their lives. In it, the author, a longtime Family Court attorney, explains what happens in Family Court and provides practical tips for navigating what is often a stressful and emotional ordeal. In the first part of the book, the author outlines how a Family Court case proceeds from start to finish. She also explains the shift in focus that can lead litigants to a better and more productive Family Court experience. In the second part of the book, the author discusses each type of Family Court case, including custody, guardianship, adoption, abuse and neglect, family offense, paternity, child support, juvenile delinquency, and persons in need of supervision cases. The descriptions of the various types of Family Court cases are enlivened by fictional stories that illustrate common Family Court concepts. At every turn, the author advises litigants to seek counsel from an experienced Family Court attorney. The views and opinions expressed in the book are based on the author's nineteen-year career as a Family Court attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Orange County, but they are entirely her own and do not constitute legal advice or reflect the views or policies of the Legal Aid Society of Orange County, the Family Court of the State of New York, or any other entity.
